The Institute of Computer Science allows you to connect to the intranet from anywhere via [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_network|VPN]]. (In simple cases, consider using an [[en:ssh:socksproxy|ssh tunnel]].)

If you intend to connect to the VPN services provided by us, please make sure that you are running only recent software and operating systems that are receiving security patches. **You are not allowed to connect to our VPN without making sure that you have the most recent security updates applied to your device, so please keep your systems safe!**

"OpenVPN is an open-source software application that implements virtual private network (VPN) techniques for creating secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged configurations and remote access facilities. To access the institute's intranet via OpenVPN, you require a [[en:vpn:profiles|profile, or certificate]], which can be requested and downloaded via the [[https://wumi.cs.uni-bonn.de/|b-it / IoCS User Management Interface]].

To authenticate, you will need to use your CS username and password.
