We are using this list to announce technical issues, maintenance windows and the results of these proceedings.

2020-08-10: DNS Resolving last Weekend

From sunday, ~13:00 up to today, ~9:30, we experienced minor problems throughout the entire network of the c.s. dept and the B-IT due to a failing primary nameserver. The problem was corrected by now.

2020-05-03: Mailservice temporarily down

Due to failed network equipment in the HRZ the mail server is offline at the moment. Please be patient while the problem is solved.

UPDATE: the problem has been solved, the mail service is available again.

2019-06-25: Update Status Imagine Premium/Microsoft Azure Dev Tools

By now a registration using the university email address is possible. More information available on this page.

2019-06-25: Status Imagine Premium/Microsoft Azure Dev Tools

Since Microsoft changed the name of the program from “Imagine Premium” to “Azure Dev Tools for Teaching”, they changed the requirements for registration to the program portal, too. As for now, an institute email address is required for registration. As newer students are not longer provided with one of these, only older students with an old address are able to register. Microsoft is working on a solution to this problem, but as for now, there is no workaround. So we cannot provide you with access to the program at the time-being.

2019-06-24: Loss of central Storage at B-IT

Last Friday around noon we experienced a total loss of several central components of our userstorage for UNIX (NFS) and Windows (SMB). Sadly we had to realize that we lost a rather important large storage component completely, so we had to recover the affected storage areas from our backup to alternative server systems. Because of that, a certain loss of data in the confines of the regular backup schedule (usually daily in the night) has to be expected.

The data rescue operation is completed by now, all services were restored again.

2019-05-20: eduroam, eduroam-cs and the new certificate

Until the replacement of the eduroam-cs certificate within IT, the certificate specified here must still be used when connecting to eduroam-cs! We will have completed the conversion to the new CA within the next few days, so you can also use the new certificate within eduroam-cs, as stated in the HRZ newsletter. We will announce this accordingly here.

2019-04-29: No Audio available in Room 0.107

Because of a device defect, there is currently no audio available in room 0.107. Please bring your own speakers or contact GSG for alternatives. We hope that the replacement amplifier will be installed during week 19.

2019-04-16 11:45: Takeover of the regulated help desk operation

From now on, access to our IT Helpdesk in room 0.014 is open to all students and staff at regular core times. There, we are happy to answer your questions about the IT infrastructure and solve your technical problems.

The help desk is staffed at the following core times:

Weekday core time
Mon 10-14 pm
Tue-Thu 12-16 pm
Fri 12-14 pm

Please refrain from contacting our staff in other offices (except transponder matters) so that we can do our job properly.

2019-04-12 10:00: DNS resolver 131.220.51.34 has been switched off

The DNS resolver 131.220.51.34 had been replaced by

131.220.4.11 131.220.4.17 2a00:5ba0:10:330::b 2a00:5ba0:10:330::11

a few weeks ago and has been turned off on Friday, April 12th, 2019, 10:00 local time.

(We will return our temporary network 131.220.50.0/23 to the University Computing Center shortly.)

Most machines (computers, printers, scanners, etc.) are configured by DHCP automatically and have switched already, We have told about others, that we had detected, to the colleagues in the work groups that manage them.

Should there still be machines that are manually configured to use 131.220.51.34 by the users themselves: you have to change the DNS resolver setting to the values shown above. However, as far as we can see, there are only a few left, that are already known to their administration. So the only problematic machines are such that were switched off for the last few days.

2019-01-29: Scanning from the multifunction device "feder" in the BYOD room (U1.040)

It is now possible to scan from “feder” not only onto a USB storage device, but also into an E-mail. You have to login first, using the display of “feder” (“Alternate Login”). Please don't forget to log out afterwards.
